Community Support Programs Minimize

YCS Community Support Programs help newcomers and individuals with low literacy to complete applications forms and government documents, obtain personal assistance and access harm reduction information as need arises.

Income Tax Clinic:
a volunteer service which completes income tax forms for families with low income, newcomers, seniors, people with disabilities and others with low literacy skills

ID Clinic:
a weekly program assists individuals to complete application forms to acquire lost Canadian ID or new documents such as birth registration. Program is run by PAID Project and serves people at risk of homelessness.

Forms Clinic:
a
weekly program provides assistance to fill out application forms to gain access to government pensions, allowances, drug benefits and other assistance programs.

Snow Link Program:
provides a shoveling service within the local community for seniors and people with physical disabilities

Holiday Support Program:
provides holiday dinner and gifts of clothing, books or personal items to disadvantaged families and individuals referred by YCS staff.
 

Food Cupboard:
provides emergency food to clients in crisis. Food is provided by North York Harvest Food Bank and supplemented by local schools during the winter months.

York HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention: 
 
a weekly outreach program to Caribbean and African community which focuses on harm reduction and STI prevention. Worker visits barber shops, hair salons and other community storefronts where people gather, as well as conducting presentations and workshops to youth at local schools.
